I always look forward to seeing which birthday theme my kids choose. When my daughter picked Minecraft for her 6th, I was excited to dive into research (since I had never played the game) so I could transform our home into her favorite game.

Level Up Your Party with Creative Minecraft Decor Ideas

To enter the party, guests had to step through our DIY Nether Portal—easily made with black paper and metallic purple tinsel for that signature Minecraft look.

We styled the mantle and gift area with a pixel-perfect Minecraft banner, a themed chest for presents (similar option or more affordable option), a grass block (similar option), and a Steve head (or Alex)—also great for costume photos! The setup pulled the whole Minecraft party theme together.

For the table decor, we used a Minecraft paper block set (similar paper blocks) and character figures to create a fun, game-inspired scene. Pixel flower table lamps added a playful touch, while green square plates, green cups, and pixel-style napkins kept everything on theme with the classic Minecraft color palette.

In-Game Eats: Minecraft Party Food & Sweets

I challenged myself to design a party menu using only foods, desserts, and drinks found in the Minecraft game—and it turned out to be such a fun and flavorful way to stay true to the theme! Food labels might be my favorite part of themed parties, and I found the perfect free downloadable one with a quick Google search.

Starting with the cake, I recreated the classic Minecraft block cake—square shape, pixel details and all. It was my first time working with fondant (I used this red and this for the brown), and the simple pixel design made it the perfect beginner-friendly project!

In addition to the pixelated cake, I baked chocolate chip cookies that perfectly resemble the ones found in the game, adding an extra touch of Minecraft authenticity!

We served “Suspicious Stew” (aka tortellini soup), which was a hilarious way to bring a game food to life. You could easily swap in your favorite soup or stew for a tasty, themed twist!

Alongside the stew, we served baked potatoes with a variety of toppings.

Additionally, we served bread—another classic Minecraft food—with butter, which added a simple yet delicious touch to the spread.

As for beverages, we served apple grape juice labeled as “Potion of Strength” and iced water as “Water Bottle”—two more fun nods to the game.

Brewing Up Fun: DIY Candy Bar and Favor Station

The most epic part of the party was our DIY Brewing Stand, where guests could create their own potion party favors. I crafted the backdrop using colorful construction paper squares arranged on a large sheet of black kraft paper to mimic the in-game design.

I added a framed Minecraft potion recipe print I found online, a fun potion toy (also comes in red), and small jars for guests to use as potion favor bottles—setting the scene for the candy mixing fun to come.

Finding candy to match in-game Minecraft items was such a fun challenge—and I was thrilled with how it all came together! Some of the themed treats included:

Iron IngotHershey’s Milk Chocolate Nuggets

Raw SalmonSwedish Fish or Smart Sweets Fish (dye-free option)

Sea Turtle Spawn EggWhoppers Robin Eggs

Amethyst ClusterPurple rock candy, broken into small chunks

Lime Dye – Green Skittles or Giggles (dye-free)

This candy bar favor station was a huge hit—guests loved crafting their own tasty potions to take home!
